About

The Travel Philosopher

Hello

Dom Nemer here.

For the best part of two decades I’ve been a travel director escorting people across Europe and beyond, making sure they know their duende from their duomo. I also travel independently across the globe.

I’m interested in not just the cultural experiences had in foreign destinations, but also how we benefit from those experiences, learning as much about ourselves as the places visited.

What this travel website offers

This website not only acts as a travel guide but also focuses on our relationship with travel, to discover what the experience can offer us on our life’s journey.

The main sections

Travel Philosophy plays a big part, which can be found in its purest form here. But for country specifics, from Catalonia and around the world back to Spain head to the Country Focus section.

Advice of a more (or less) practical nature can be found under Practicalities, while the curiosities that travel and culture conjures up can be found here.

If you want help creating a travel music playlist don’t hesitate to check out the travel music section which should give you some ideas.

If there are any countries or issues or music that you would like covered, don’t hesitate to send me a message via the contact page.

Thanks for visiting!

Favourite Travel Quotes

You will find here my favourite travel quote of the week/month/year (depending on how often I change it!) This one is found in Virginia Woolf’s The Waves. Here Bernard reflects on his life during a trip to Italy:

‘I am a traveller, a pedlar, paying for my lodging with a ballad… I don’t mind the fleas and find no fault with silk either, I am very tolerant. I am not a moralist. I have too great a sense of the shortness of life and its temptations to rule red lines.’
